Join The Land Conservancy for a hike on the incredibly scenic Fitzhugh Hill Ranch. The ranch is home to some of SLO County’s most iconic views. You might know it by the turnouts on 46 West with endless views of Morro Bay and the Pacific.
Joy Fitzhugh has generously provided limited access to Land Conservancy members to hike on her ranch. The diverse woodlands, lush pastures, and endless views on the property will make for a beautiful morning hike!
Docent-led ranch hikes require significant hiking experience. Ranch hikes will not provide the same experience as a hike on our local open spaces. Hikers should have experience with off-trail terrain and should be comfortable in a wilderness environment. These properties are working ranches with untracked terrain. This includes steep, slippery/loose, rocky, and uneven surfaces. Ranch hikes may travel on existing dirt roads, but at times may require off-trail hiking over difficult terrain.
Please Bring: Water, hiking shoes, sunscreen, hat, snacks if desired, and appropriate hiking clothing – layers!
Prepare: There may be overland hiking, ticks, poison oak, and rattlesnakes.
Distance: This longer/advanced hike will cover approximately 4 miles with 500-600’ total elevation gain.
